(this is hard to type)

Okay.

First you line up the numbers so that 28 is directly over .06.... then you write a line underneath that.

8x6 = 48 so you write the 8 directly under the line (under the 6) and carry the 4 above the 2.

2x6= 12. Add the carry-over (4) to get 16. Write a 16 underneath the line (under 0)

That was the first grouping of multiplication.

Now, you move your pencil down to start a new row. Write a zero underneath the lowest 6 to hold your place. 8x0=0 and 2x0 = 0 so nothing happens in the second grouping.

Then, you add your two groupings.....
you get 166.

You put the decimal point inbetween the 1 and 6 (thats two spots in) because .06 has the decimal point 2 spots in.

The answer is 1.66

Hope this was understandable!

Pretend that the decimal point was not there and multiply. So 6 x 28 is 168. Move the decimal point two places to the left to get 1.68
The reason why you move 2 places is because 6 to .06 is 2 places.

.06 x 28 = 6 x 28 / 100 (because you have shifted the decimal point by 2)
= 168 / 100
= 1.68

0.06 x 28
=1.68

you just first multiply the two numbers as if they were whole numbers(take out the decimal point). When you have the product, then you count how many digits are at the right of the decimal. Place the point, in the product, that many number of digit spaces.

Multiply normally, just add the number of decimal places by the end of the question.
For example.
.4 * .4, we know is 16, but since there are two spaces behind the decimal in total, you go .16

Method is to multiply to obtain 168 and then count number figures behind the decimal point.
Number of figures is 2 and therefore the point goes between 1 and 6
-----28
X 0.06
--------
1. 68
------

Example
Another way is to multiply and then place point from estimate answer:-
6.4 x 3 gives figures 192 but by inspection, 3 x 6.4 will be approx 18.
Answer then becomes 19.2 rather than 192.
