Sure, it's possible to burn discs without the internet, given the source is already saved locally (Hard Drive, Flash, or another CD). Burning does not wear down the computer, per se, but the CD burner/drive does wear down since it uses a laser to "burn" the bits of data onto a blank CD. I've made hundreds of discs, and have gone through 2 drives already. But CD burners are pretty cheap these days, compared to everything else, so I just get a new one. An excellent link for data storage & optical media burning can be found at the bottom of http://www.datastoragesolutions.blogspot.com

Yes, you can burn a CD or DVD without the Internet at all. All you need is a CD drive capable of writing to the CD. If his computer didn't come with one, he can purchase one for under 100 dollars I believe at a store like Best Buy or Circuit City.

For the second part of your question, no, I wouldn't think they would wear down your computer. After all, that's what they're meant to do, write to CDs, right?

You need CD burning software. I personally use Nero http://www.nero.com , but you could use Windows Media Player to burn audio and data CDs.

CDs/DVDs don't necessarily wear the computer down, but it does use the hard disk, the power, etc. If you use a laptop, make sure you have it plugged in and not running on a battery. It chews up 10-15% of my battery power for a whole 695 MB CD. Since DVD's are 4.7 and 9.4 GB, and some burn at 8x, it could take about 30 minutes for a whole DVD.

So yeah, make sure the laptop is plugged in. If it is a desktop PC, then disregard this message. ^^

it is possible to burn cds and dvds if you have a copy of the disc that you want to burn. you also have to have the software that supports dvd and cd burning. after the internet is disconnected you can only burn music that is saved on your hard drive or like i said from another disc. as far as it wearing down your computer i dont know about that

Sure you can burn CDs and DVDs without an internet connection. You just need the files to burn on your computer, a CD/DVD burner on your machine....and blank CDs/DVDs. ;-)

The computer does get busy while you're burning, but it doesnt harm the computer.

Yes,burning DVDs has nothing to do with the Internet.

It will probably wear down the DVD drive, but not the computer itself.

The classic sufferer of a trojan horse. You did not get that replica of i'm Legend legally did you? with the intention to do a device restore/reformat, you want the CDs. have you ever tried utilising a sturdy AV first? acquire a tribulation of NOD32 and spot in case you are able to freshen up the computing gadget. and that i propose you purchase a license for ESET smart safe practices (NOD32) because it truly is the perfect AV. the perfect offense is a reliable protection.
