We are going to Spain for a wedding in Mallorca. We have enough time for one more city. I cannot decide between Barcelona or Madrid.

That' s a tough choice, but if it's your first visit to Spain, I would pick Madrid...the most Spanish of Cities and great people and party.

Barcelona is nearer to Mallorca, but if you are flying to America, Madrid is better for getting home.

If time is limited, I would suggest Barcelona as it is more compact.

Madrid is much better if you have time to hire a car and visit, Chinchon, Aranjuez, Toledo, Avila and Segovia.

If you are an art gallery fan. It has to be Madrid.

Also Barcelona is not really Spanish, being Catalan, it's more Frenchified in atmosphere.

Hope that helps a bit.

Have a great time!

I am assuming that Madrid, Granada, Sevilla and Toledo are the definites and the last four options are what you are asking about. If that is the case, definitely Cordoba (most famous for its "Mezquita") and then I suppose Cadiz - if I had to choose two out of those four. It also depends on what you are looking to do on the trip. if it is pure (or mostly) sightseeing (which most first-time visitors aim for), then definitely Cordoba, but frankly, Malaga and Marbella you could skip if you are tight on time as they are predominantly resort towns. Don't get me wrong, I love Spain (I go almost every year for the past 20 years and have family there) and those are nice cities, but if time is limited and you are looking for traditional sightseeing, I would definitely include Cordoba and add some more time to Madrid, Toledo, Sevilla and Granada. If possible, I would add Segovia as well. Buen viaje!!

The streets of Barcelona are alive by day or night, providing the visitor with a safe place for strolling around, whether for shopping, eating or simply passing the time of day. There is also 1 mile long city beach with clean soft sand, ideal for sun bathing.

I prefer Madrid. Very cosmopolitan yet there are still a lot of historical influences to learn and appreciate Spanish culture and the people.
