The hotels on Quebec St. next to Stapleton, where the old airport used to be, are a good value for the money. There's a Radisson, Doubletree, Ramada, Best Western and others that charge a lot less because they're not right downtown.
If you have a car and don't have to stay downtown, you'll get better value in the suburbs like Lakewood, Aurora, Wheat Ridge. Try www.tripadvisor.com for great suggestions and traveler ratings and reviews of hotels and restaurants.

I would suggest getting a free copy of the green coupon traveler guide found at many gas stations and truck stops and all rest areas. In there you can use coupons for really nice hotels such as the Red Lion Invesco and the Best Western central Denver for less than $50! Other than that there are good priced west of Denver at the Wheat Ridge area off of I-70 at several motels for around $39 Good Luck!

if you will have a car, then you would be just fine outside of downtown Denver...
go to Hotwire.com and try the Cherry Creek area. Don't choose the cheapest option though as I think I know which hotel it is but I used Hotwire to get a room for a visiting friend and on Hotwire I got $45 a night at a very decent hotel on Colorado Blvd.... can't remember the name of it though.
the only thing about Hotwire is they only tell you the general location, star-rating, and price per night for the room but won't tell you the name of the hotel until you have booked it. That is why I wouldn't go for the cheapest option as there is a hotel on the same level as Motel 6 on leetsdale that I think is the cheapest option they offer.
if you want to be in Downtown Denver you will pay much more...

I stayed at the Hampton Inn on Sherman Street in Downtown Denver, last Sept wasn't too bad price wise, i think it was $129 or $139/night. I also stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn in Englewood, CO (its a 15 minute drive from Denver), I think that was $109/night. Both were nice hotels, in decent areas. I'd recommend both.

Driving or flying down here? I stayed in The Days inn when I arrived here and it was quite good. Close to the airport [why I asked]. Try maybe those Expedia or Hotels websites and see what they come up with!
I unfortunately live here now so I am out of date with hotel costs!

The Drury Inn just off I 70 is pretty nice. It has a good free breakfast. free hour of phone calls (long distance per day), free local calls, a nice gym, and is right off the Interstate so easy access.
