You statement is only true if you look at recent history. California elected Reagan Governor in 1966 and passed anti tax measures in the late 1970's. It was only when Pete Wilson made the image of Republican Party anti immigrant in the early nineties that California become a reliable democratic state.
In the 1950's and 60's Texas strongly supported Johnson who had served as their Senator for 20 years before becoming President. He was probably the most liberal president the US ever had.

There has been a geographic realignment in American politics over the last 40 years driven by race and religion.

Liberal California [I've always lived here] - most diverse state; has amazing beaches, mountains, etc etc; perfect weather; the people can be assholes but you get over it Washington [more specifically Seattle] - amazing nature, intelligent and educated people, very diverse, better weather than most people think, amazing food Virginia [and the rest of the Chesapeake Bay region] - I just love the region in general. very green, great food, close to DC New York - you cant go wrong with New York City 5th pick was tough for me but I'd probably go with Hawaii - amazing weather, amazing people, amazing everything. It would probably be higher on my list I'd actually been there to experience it myself

Texans have Bush's brains - not much.

Obviously, Californians are much, much wiser.

They may have elected a Republican Governor(Arnold), but the 'power' behind him, his wife, Maria Shriver is not only a Democrat, big time, but a part of the Kennedy clan !! 'Nuff said about that !! LOL
