I had a horse accident tonight. The main injury is between the bottom of the ribs and above my hip bones. It swelled to the point of being over the waistband of my pants. Are there any serious injuries that could be in this area? Mostly it hurts when I put weight on that leg, twist my back, or lean forward.

You should go to the ER and be checked for internal injuries. Having been around horses, they are very large animals and can do damage to a person even if you think that you are fine. You need to be checked out just in case.

You could be having a slipped or herniated disk problem. See your ortho immediately. Take bed rest in the meanwhile. Apply ice and hot water fomentation alternating with each other for 10 mins. That will reduce the inflamation. Take any NSAID tabs which agree with you. Do not strain yourself.

You can obviously do some serious damage. You really must see a professional. Nobody can answer this q on line withut a physical examination.

Take care. You know, I love horses.... but those chaff bags you see around horses necks are not filled with lucerne... I reckon that's $ bills they are chomping on!

see a chiropractor before your body heals cooked and to prevent nerve damage. I fell of a horse and a long time i suffered. I see a chiro now but its harder to rehabilitate after the fact.

Yes!!! You could have some internal bleeding! A simple sprained bak, or pulled muscles should not cause such swelling!

Watch for blood in your urine in case you damaged a kidney. You probably just have a bruise in the muscles.
