This is a large financially stable company client and I am shocked that their AP dept can't process a check request. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is it even legal to require a vendor to accept credit cards?

You do not have to accept credit cards.

You can ask for cash, check, money order or cashier's check, depending on what is appropiate.

They have and they pay with checks. They use them to pay their credit cards. So they are jerking you around.

They probably get a 1 or 2% kickback from the credit card, and can make interest on the money before they pay the credit card.

When you accept a credit card, you have to pay extra fees, which you probably have not counted in your break even analysis or profit margin.

You are not allowed to ask for more money to cover the credit card costs, but you can have a discount for paying by cash or money orders.

They cannot require you to accept credit cards. You are the seller, you tell your customer what you will accept and what you will not accept. Do not compromise what works for your business.

Well.... since you are selling them your product and billing them later, you must have a credit agreement with them. What does that stipulate for payment methods? If you specified check and they refused to issue you one, then they are in violation of YOUR agreement.

Absense of the agreement, they are still required to pay you for the amount owed. You are not required to accept all credit cards (there are hundreds), or even a credit card.

Seems they are trying to bully you.

I assume they are paying you? They can do business with whomever they choose. Try using PayPal for just this client. They will set you up with CC processing at a reasonable cost.

There is nothing illegal about the request but it seems rather strange that a corporation would not accept cheque payment.
