Sister Luck's answer is one of the best of all. Although a complete list would go on forever. Unfortunately she missed the three fantastic Southern frat bands of that era.
The Gants (nicknamed the "Southern Beatles" their hits were ¨Road Runner' and 'I Wonder';
The Swinging Medallions' 'Double Shot of My Baby's Love'
and
The Greek Fountains 'Counting the Steps'.
All not so well known, but all influenced internationally famous bands that came after. (Just ask mr. Stevie of Springsteen's E Street Band fame.)
