does the warranty guidelines state that if the repairer alters the odometer reading in any way, they must change it back to the exact reading when the car was brought in for service.

The LAW states they cannot fraudlently change an odometer reading.

NO ONE including a dealership is permitted by law to alter or change an odometer reading

Dealerships don't alter the odometers. They can't, in fact. Any replacement Instrument clusters are ordered, and will reflect the exact mileage at time of order. So you may get a bit of free mileage till the part comes in, but that's it.

Actually, yes he must. I worked for a dodge dealer. Had to order a new odometer, and first things first. They had to have the exact mileage so they could pre program. Otherwise, this could cause some major problems with selling the vehicle. Such as, the title states mileage. and it doesnt possibly match up when you sell it. For instance, you got it, had 35000 miles. Sold it, with 25000 miles.

changing the odometer reading would be fraud, if possible with all the computers nowadays...if the odometer is wrong due to a defect or repair you are supposed to disclose that when you sell the car.

The odometer should NEVER be adjusted by ANYBODY.
Dealer or not.
