Put a few mL of HCl in a test tube.

Add a small piece of Mg ribbon.

Cover the test tube with another test tube held upside down. This is to collect the hydrogen gas, which is less dense than air.

A flame held near the mouth of the upside-down test tube will make a "squeaky pop" which is the explosion of the hydrogen as it reacts with oxygen in the air.

Depends on how brave you are. You can put a smoldering spinter in the hydrogen gas exhaust line which should flare vigorously once exposed.
