You need to be tested for sleep apnea. If diagnosed you can get a positive pressure breathing device that can prevent the snoring and the health problems associated with sleep apnea. Costs are covered by most insurances. Otherwise it could run into an expensive experience. Inquire at medical equiment stores about the cost of the device ( it has to be prescribed by a healthcare provider....you can't just buy one) A healthcare provider can talk to you about the costs of testing.

That depends on the cause of the snoring and your health insurance.
If, as is probable, the person has sleep apnea -- and I say that it's probable because usually people don't fuss much about soft snoring, and the really loud kind is likely to be apnea -- then a sleep study needs to be done. Without insurance that's costly, but so are funerals!
Once you have a prescription for a CPAP machine (the usual treatment for apnea) your insurance will pay most or all of the cost, which can run over $1000 at the providers most insurance companies insist that you use. But, if you are paying for it yourself, a very nice CPAP can be purchased for under $250 (but you still need a prescription) at http://www.cpap.com They are very pleasant to work with. I use their Puritan-Bennett Goodknight 420C. It's quiet, lightweight, and can be used in other countries with only a plug adapter. I've had it about four years now and would never go back to the clunky, noisy, heavy CPAP I used before. If your pressure is high (above 10 or 11) you'll also want a heated humidifier, which adds to the cost. If insurance covers the machine, it will usually cover the humidifier as well.
Apnea can severely damage the heart if not treated. You need to make treating it a very high priority.

Is that someone snoring your husband or boyfriend? Snoring is a side affect of a serious sleep disorder "Sleep Apnea". Please see that this person gets a sleep study done. The person will complain of feeling tired a lot, feeling like there never get restfull sleep, and wanting to take a lot of naps. People who have sleep apnea stop breathing several times during the night, and if they don't awaken on their own they can die in their sleep. So that's why it is so important that they get help. Also they can do surgery to help with the apnea and it also helps with the snoring but the best treatment is the CPAP breathing machine.

There's surgery, but that's probably thousands of dollars. You should try those Breathe Right strips....it can at least lessen the snoring in many cases

tlbrown42000 is 99% correct on everything that's most important.
A sleep study can only be ordered buy a Pulmonary Dr. and is usually conducted in a sleep clinic in a hospital. The study will confirm wheather a person has a snoring problem or actually is suffering from Sleep Apnea which in some cases can be fatal. They are two distinct treatable disorders. People who snore do not automatically have Sleep Apnea. Sleep Apnea happens when a person snores, gasps and stops breathing between snoring episodes. The results of the sleep study is reviewed by the pulmonary Dr. in to order the parameters on the CPAP machine that is necessary to help each individual patient by the healthcare provider. The providers make the necessary ramp times and ultimate pressures that are necessary to help the patient suffiently.
Health providers sell or rent the equipment necessary to help people with sleep abnormalities. Insurances will pay for the equipment rental for a period of 3-5 yrs. Then the heart of the equipment the actual CPAP pump becomes your property.
Insurances pay for all replacement equipment, hoses, filters, headgear, masks every three months. Any service or recalibration work that ever needs to be done to the pump itself.
Technology is changing every month or two. equipment is 10 times better than it was a few years ago. Do not procrastinate drag the the person to a specialist. The new quality of sleep they will be getting will be worth it's weight in gold. This is the least invasive type of treatment a person can ever have to date for the very problem your bringing forward.
Good luck to all of you!
