A sensient is someone that feels deeply and is able to pick up on anothers feelings or can tell when something is going wrong with someone else b/c of an their own emotions. At least that is the best why I can think of to explain it.

Someone once told me I was sensient and I didn't really believe or pay it much attention. Now I am beginning to wonder if it is possible.

So my questions are:
1)If you are sensient what event or experience made you believe you are and how do you deal with it?
2) Can you turn it off and how?
3) is it possible to "fine-tune" it?

Thank you.

ps. I posted this before but I think I posted it in the wrong category. Not sure if this is the right one either.

The description that you provided does not refer to sentience, but rather to the concept of being empathic (clairsentience).

The inverse proposition is that of the emotional vampire.

In psychology though, the issue is one of boundaries and being overly sensitive to the moods and states of others. This often occurs to those who have endured trauma or abuse who must be able to detect their surroundings to be safe. This can also be called hypervigilance.

I don't think SENTIENT is the word you are looking for, based on your explanation of the word and your questions.

You start thinking about someone and the phone rings or You know who's calling on the phone before you answer it. you get a bad feeling about the guy your friend is dating when you first meet him, but you don't say anything, until he starts abusing her.... yes i have it, i think we all have it. But some of us ignore it as being overly cautious or think its coincidence. Always trust it.
