Usually the doctor will ask the mother to leave the room unless you request otherwise. They ask because they want you to be free to answer questions so they know your true gyn history.

What you can also do, is call the office ahead of time and ask their policy. If they say it is your choice, tell them over the phone to make note that you would like your mom not to be in the room. Then they can ask your mom to leave without her knowing you requested it.

If they ask you in front of her, it might make you feel uncomfortable to say you want your mom to leave. However, it is your right so do not be afraid to say that you would prefer privacy during your exam.

P.S. If you have a good relationship with your mom, be honest and tell her how embarrassing it would be to be examined in front of her while in such an exposed position. Most mothers would understand. She might even surprise you by saying that she had no intention of staying in the room!

Not if you dont want her in there. Depending on your doctor they will ask your mom to leave when it comes time to do the exam.
