Go to the discount parts store and buy the adapter and the oil and see if you have a leak. That is the first thing they are going to do. You put the adapter on and attact to it and if you see bubbles in the line then you know.

Unfortunately you're going to have to have someone look at it to
determine what's wrong. It could be a leak or a locked up compressor or a faulty pressure switch just to name a few.
I can tell you that it should NOT cost $100 to diagnose.
I live in Florida and most places around here charge $20 - $30
plus the cost of refrigerant and thats about $10 per pound retail. Most vehicles take less than two pounds.
I have worked in the automotive industry for almost 15 years so if you get and estimate feel free to email me and I'll tell you if you're getting ripped off. slicnik@yahoo.com
Good luck

Went through the same thing with a Buick Rivera. Cost me $50.00 for them to hook up to computer system. It only needed to be reset [computer stuff] while another shop tried to sell me all kinds of parts! Shop around!

If you cant diagnois your problem, you have little to no chance of fixing it yourself. A/C work is something best left to professional mechanics.

take it somewhere else. they shouldn't charge for a diagnosis unless they won't be fixing it. don't put up with that kind of treatment.
