you have to get to a doctor Immediately . There's nothing you can do to help this. you should go to the emergency room now.

I've had many problems with both subluxation and dislocation, and I can relate to how worried you might be about it. I went to the doctors office after the third time it happpened (all of these occured in the course of just over a week), and they basically suggested that I ice it and stay off of it until the swelling went down. They also suggested that I wear a knee immobilizer for 6 weeks, which I stubbornly did not do. I went on walking/running like usual. The result of these actions were two more knee incidences and a resulting reconstructive knee surgery, plus countless months of therapy.

My advice to you: take care of your knees, because you will need them for the rest of your life. Dislocations and subluxations are a big deal, and can be hinting at some larger problem that you may have in your knee. Go see a doctor (or two) and follow their advice. I hope this helps you.

Good luck, and get better!

Did you dislocate your knee or did your knee cap slip on you? A BIG difference. A true knee dislocation is a medical emergency with the potential of having to amputate your lower leg. (Yes, if the popliteal artery is severed. Regardless you would have torn most of the major ligaments in your knee.

A ligament tear cause slippage of the knee that can give a sensation that you dislocated your knee.

Slippage of your knee cap (subluxating) is not limb threatening, but does require a doctor's attention.

Go to your dr or even a chiropractor[sp?]. It will help so much. I know from experience. Mine were shifted out of place for the longest time and I tried to ignore it, but it became much worse. I couldn't run, walk, or anything physical with me knees with out pain.
