No, it's doesn't affect your nails. And try to go someplace where they're all Korean or Vietnamese. They do it in 25 minutes, not an hour. OK. This is hard to explain, but you'll get it all after you've had it done. The first time you get a full set. After that you get fills every 2-3 weeks. It might take you a few times to find someone you really like. Don't worry. It'll be interesting for you to watch, and don't pick your nose. Ouch!! (Everyone does, you just don't realize it. You'll think of me, Lady Lynn, the first time you pick your nose with your new nails.) Good luck and enjoy your new prettier hands!! By the way, you are getting a full set of acrylic nails. Get them square with the sides rounded a little. There is no discomfort, especially if you go to the Koreans. Some of them speak perfect English, and some speak no English, except manicure talk. The salon in my Super WalMart is run by Koreans. A full set costs $35-45. Fills around $20.

Well if you're getting acrylic nails....then a french manicure would be white tips. If you tell them you want a french manicure, that's what you'll get on your real nails, they will paint the tips white. When you get acrylics, they will clip your nails, grind them down with a tool and then they will super glue white tips to the edge of your nails. Then, they will fill in the bed with acrylic. They will use the tool again to make sure the surface of your nails is even. Next, they will file your nails to your desired shape (square, pointed, round, etc.) and with white tips, they either put on a clear coat of polish or they buff them so they are shiny. You go in for a fill every 2-3 weeks. This means that they will fill in the area of your nail where there is new growth. However, with the french manicure look you can usually see the line where it has been filled. I wouldn't recommend getting them filled more than once. After that, if you still want french manicure style, you should have them take them off and start over. The process of taking acrylic nails off is not a comfortable one. After time, this process destroys your nails, so you shouldn't keep them on for more than 2-3 months at a time. Your nails will need time to breath and to grow out so that they are healthy again. Good luck!

YES! artificial nails and getting them refilled (more acrylic added to fill the gap between the new growth near cuticle and the artificial nail) will damage your nail beds. if you continue to get them done on a regular basis, then don't worry about it. artificial nails do make your hands look very feminine though. but once you take them off, your nail beds will be soft and will break until they grow out. good luck!

"Filled" in this case means filling in the gap between the cuticle & an acrylic nail as the real nail underneath grows out.

If you're just getting your nails polished - then it doesn't apply to you.

They put this goop stuff on it to make it look like your real nail and when it grows out they have to fill it again so it looks real.

Are you getting fake nails put on?

Don't let them cut your cuticles!!!! I know someone who got their nails badly infected because they cut their cuticles. Seriously, don't let them. It sometimes hurts and is totally pointless.

Long nails can be harbingers for bacteria, specifically if they are artificial, but they will are good for scratching and starting those little foil wrapped containers which are so hard to get directly into.
