FA CUP
The competition is a knockout tournament with pairings drawn completely at random - there are no seeds, and a draw takes place after the majority of fixtures have been played in each round. However the qualifying round draws are regionalised to reduce the travel costs of smaller non-league sides. Rounds One and Two were also previously split into Northern and Southern draw sections, however this practice was abandoned after the 1997-98 Cup competition. The draw also determines which team will play at home. If a match (other than the semi-final or final) is drawn, there is a replay, usually at the ground of the team who were away for the first game. Drawn replays are now settled with extra time and penalty shootouts, though in the past further replays were possible, and some ties took as many as six matches to settle; in their 1975 campaign, Fulham played 12 games over 6 rounds. This remains the most games played by a team to reach a final.
All Premier League and Football League clubs may enter. Non-league clubs may also enter if they competed in the previous season's FA Cup, FA Trophy, or FA Vase competition and are deemed to be playing in an "acceptable" league for the current season. All clubs entering the competition must have a suitable stadium. In the 2004-05 season, 660 clubs entered the competition, beating the long-standing record of 656 from the 1921-22 season. In 2005-06 a further high point was reached, with 674 entrants, and again in 2006-07 when 687 clubs entered.
LEAGUE CUP
The Football League Cup, commonly known as the League Cup, is an English football competition. Like the FA Cup, it is played on a knockout (single elimination) basis. Unlike the FA Cup where 674 teams entered in 2005–06, only 92 clubs can enter: the 20 clubs of the FA Premier League, and the 72 clubs of The Football League who organise the competition. Also unlike the FA Cup, the semi-finals are played over two legs. The winners qualify for the UEFA Cup, if they have not qualified for European competition in some other way.

All professional leagues in England qualify, they then go through a knockout competition, I think at the 5th round stage the top 4 leagues enter the competition and the knockout continues until it culminates in the final as in this Saturday man u vs. Chelsea.
the F.A. and the League are 2 different governing body i think the split was in the early 1900's the F.A. is the governing body for soccer in the UK and the league are the governing body of the top 4 leagues known as the football leagues. in 1871/72 the F.A. started there knockout competition. Later on the league during another spat with the F.A. decided to set up there own competition but restricted to the then 4 professional leagues and so it remains although its deemed as a lesser trophy than the F.A. cup. Apart from the fact that the F.A. cup is the oldest soccer competition in the world it generally has the most teams competing for it over the season i think i read some where it was close to 700 teams involved in this competition.
the winners of one of the 4 leagues (premier, championship, 3rd, 4th divisions) are called title winners and receive a totally different trophy than the above mentioned F.A. cup and League cup. The League cup is sometimes referred to by the sponsors name for that year.

Teams from the 4 top leagues (Premier League, Championship, League 1, League 2) get into the FA cup automatically. Some Non League teams (Conference and below) get in automatically but others have to pay. In theory me and a group of friends could enter the FA Cup even though we aren't a member of a league but we'd have to pay something like £5,000.
The League Cup is a Cup competition similar to the FA cup but it is restricted to teams in the top 4 leagues in England.

They have a big tournament full of teams from the Prem, Championship, and Leagues 1 and 2. I believe that the Prem and Championship teams are automatically in, and the teams from the lower leagues have to fight for their spots. After that its basic win move on lose go home. If you tie you play a second game in the other team's stadium, and if thats a tie then you go to extra time and, if needed, penalty kicks. The League Cup is whoever has the most points in the Premier League after the season is over wins the Premier League trophy (or cup). Points go 3 for a win, 1 for a tie and 0 for a loss. In event of a tie in points, the first tiebreaker is goal differential and the second tie breaker is total goals.

The team who wins the FA cup or the League cup play in the Europa league no count what place they are, or perhaps what league they are in. Europe has a much greater suitable equipment than america's commie franchise equipment.
