To reduce a fraction means to put it in a simpler form. For example, 3/6 can be reduced to 1/2. If the denominator (bottom #) is a multiple of the numerator (top #), then you can reduce a fraction. Also, if the two numbers are multiples of another #, then you can reduce. For example, 25/40 can be reduced to 5/8. I did this by noticing that each # (25 and 40) was a multiple of 5.
For 7/500, first see if 500 is a multiple of 7. Nope. You can get as close as 497 (7 * 70 = 490; add one more 7 to get to 497). Close but no cigar.
Next, see if 7 and 500 are multiples of a particular number. Well, the only integers you can multiply to get 7 are 1 and 7. Since we know 7 doesn't go into 500, we're stuck. No more simplifcation possible.
