You can recycle just about anything if you can find a use for it. Aluminum, glass, paper and some plastics are commonly recycled; but you can recycle bricks (take them from one building and use them as is to build another), metals, and motor oil. Even computers and household appliances can be recycled.

The reasons why non-recyclables are commonly used fall into two categories. Either the materials are cheaper to make/easier to work with to get the desired result, or the product is expected to last a very long time and therefor should not be recycled.

Just because something can be recycled, does not mean that it's a good idea..... because it takes energy to recycle most materials.... and that energy has to be produced by some other means. It is quesitonable for instance, whether recycling aluminum cans saves anything except aluminum. It might be better for the planet if we just buried them instead of remelting and cleaning them.

As far as paper products go, the problem is that as paper gets recycled and recycled, the fibers get shorter and shorter. Printer paper made with high recycled content generates a lot more dust and paper fibers than virgin paper.. it will screw up your printer a lot faster and reduce the life of a laser printer drum..
