No because the weakness will be exposed quickly and the opposing team will take advantage of it. They will guard you more to your strong side forcing you to expose the ball to them more if you try to dribble away. The ability to dribble is connected towards passing and shooting meaning, if can't dribble with your left, your lefty layup and passing is also weak.

a player at ANY position has to be able to handle the ball (dribbling, passing and shooting) with either hand, because defenders can and will come at you from both sides, and you have to be able to improvise in a millisecond because that is how quickly things happen at the NBA level
my son plays 1 and 2 guard in High School and even at this age, the athleticism is incredible and the training is intensive; so there is no way a player could even advance to the NCAA Division I without being fairly good on their weak side because their competition certainly will be!

Not a chance, if your a small forward you need to be able to dribble with both hands. NBA players are basketball smart if they see you only dribbling right they will play you left and if you are very weak at your other hand its a turnover.
They cant be effective at all, especially at point guard, it would be like playing with one arm.

point guards handle the ball,
they direct the ball to other players
if a guy cannot dribble with both hands, defenders can just steal the ball away from him.
another point is that in crucial times like 4th quarter, 5 seconds remaining, no timeouts, handling from the backcourt, he has to dribble with two hands so he can travel a far distance before he takes a shot. IF a guy dribbles with one hand, oh man, he should belong in the D-League...lol

Jordan was a great perimeter defender but so is Kobe . On the other hand James is a very underrated perimeter defender plus he is a better rebounder and shoot blocker than both Kobe and Jordan .So i guess James is the best defender of the three . BQ. This era ( our era ) is full of great scorers like Kobe , James , Melo , Wade , Durant ,Dirk and others .I have seen many times LeBron driving to the basket , the opponent team is playing good defense on him but he still makes the bucket plus he draws the foul .I have seen good defenders guarding players like Kobe , Wade ,Melo and Durant but they still make a jump shoot and score no matter how hard the opponent player is guarding them . last night i saw Dirk scoring like crazy against good defenders and nobody could do anything to stop him . So i think this era is the hardest for defenders because all these great scorers that we have can score in many different ways and the defenders many times are powerless to stop them . @-Roscoe O: WE CAN WE WILL! i meant to say perimeter defender not post defender . LOL

no because in the nba there is nothing but the best and smartest players so once they would find out you cant dribble with both hands they would expose that weakness everytime you try to come up the court. Also how would you drive only to your right, what if you need to finish with your left if your not good with with both your hands you will not be succsesful in the NBA.

Its not possible because if you are proffesional basketball player who already make it to the NBA's you have a habit to dribble using both of your hands; if you find yourself having a hard time to dribble with both hands then you cant make it to NBA.

All players need to be able to dribble with both hands, and especially Guards because they are the main dribblers

make it in the NBA slim to none chance but it is possible, but the correct question is Can A Guard be one of the altime greats. Now-a-days without having that ability and the answer to that is no.

is that a rhetorical question?!? PROFESSIONAL basketball is what the nba is, if you cant handle the ball with both hands, you are not a professional. you will not make it, the nba is the best of the best.
