A pharmacist specializes in the various aspects of medications. In the community setting, a pharmacist checks each prescription to make sure it is safe. The pharmacist has the final okay on any prescription. Some prescriptions have to be compounded.

pharmacists dispense (or give out, so to speak) medication prescribed to you by your doctor. the profits go to the pharmacy and companies that make the drugs and the pharmacist is paid a salary. some pharmacists work in research and help to formulate drugs. im sure they do plenty of other things, but for the most part the ones you see in drugstores dont make or sell drugs.
