First off, you can still get good grades AND have a good amount of friends. Seriously, during the first year, everyone is freaked out, so be confident, go up and approach people, smile often and be a good listener. Also, small acts of kindness can go a long way..
Also, talk to your classmates before class.. make small talk. Also, join an organization you find interesting.
College is a place to spread your wings, so by all means... learn and grow.. oh, and good luck :-)

I don't know if you should be as concerned with being "popular" as you should be finding great friends in general. The cliques in college aren't nearly as bad as highschool, and everyone goes to parties together. Just find people you fit in with whether it's based on music preference or just a love for partying. Whatever it is, focus on finding great friends instead of worrying about the popularity thing. It'll follow up after the whole friend thing. :)

When I was in college the only "popular" people were either athletes, cheerleaders, easy and you know what I mean by that, in a band or killed in a car accident
I didnt care about any of that. I wanted to obtain my Masters by age 20 and I did it. Good luck to you chose the right path one you will not regret in your future

Being popular really is not being cool or "bad" it's just people knowing you. Do not act like a jerk make many friends by being nice and you will be very popular.

If you're old enough to be in college, then you should be old enough to realize that popularity isn't nearly as important as the education and experiences you can gain from an institute of higher learning.
If you're aren't smart enough to realize that, than you don't deserve a college degree.

Take lots of science classes, and stay away from alcohol.
That's what all the popular kids do.

fail, become a jock, and throw your life away. now why do you want to do this again? i mean seriously people, nobody ever got "popular" by being themselves. they got attention by being the kind of person who does stupid SHlT. One day the popular person gets hurt bad and who is there by their side? no one. because nobody gives a **** about them. i would say dont worry about being popular and aim for success.
