obviously not

especially under the current administration,
who clearly have an agenda all their own

politics have become so corrupted that you really can't tell
one side from the other, except regarding a few issues

i'd love to see them send their own children to iraq and to
see them try to support a family of 4 on $20,000 a year!

We shouldn't have to depend on someone to take care of us. Some of the people in Louisiana helped themselves. A lot did not. What do you think of the people in Mississippi? They were hit a lot harder. Thousands of homes were totally destroyed... barely a concrete slab left. But there wasn't any focus on them. They got up and helped themselves. They didn't cry, whine, or complain to the news media that they needed help.

In other words, everyone (people who are able to) should make sure they can be independent. However, the government should help those (disabled) who cannot support themselves. Our government is not a crutch. They're here to protect our freedom from outsiders.

I wonder how the government decides who to help myself. From watching how much help New Orleans got I can't help but wonder what criteria is used when deciding the amount of money that is actually given to disaster victims. Millions of dollars were apparently given to people who only said they were victims, but weren't. Many millions more were paid to contractors who didn't actually do much reconstruction. Have you seen many news clips that show the finished reconstruction in the city? I'm afraid that New Orleans is still in ruins and many of the outlaying areas are pretty much the same as they were right after the flood that inundated the city.

Katrina is the clear answer to the question - as to who can you look to for help when bad stuff happens - the same people we all do, no matter the size of the disaster...friends, family, community. There is always eachother and we are far more reliable and honest that the government will ever be.

Probably not. Our government take care of us? huh! What a joke. it can't even take care of itself. we are all screwed.we're on our own. We need a whole new government,i mean there is too much bureaucracy, too many professionals that hold public office. it needs to be the way it was when the founding father's established our government. there were farmers, tavern owners, shop keepers, inventors, etc. now,it's just a bunch of hogwash. like i said,we're on our own. but the bottom line is, they shouldn't have to take care of us. we should take care of ourselves

No, never trust the goverment..

the goverment is too busy with everything going on all around the world to help its own people. Just like Louisania bush was too worried about the stupid war to do anything about it, same with all the other disasters that has happened lately..

Pretty much take precautions yourself. I live in an area of Northern California that is just waiting for a flood disaster. The State keeps saying how they are going to fix levee's but they still haven't done anything. What do they care, Arnold lives in Southern California anyways. LOOK OUT FOR YOURSELF... !!

People have to start looking after them selves instead of having the government look after them, I for one do not need a mommy and a daddy to look after me, If you live in a high risk area that gets tornado's, hurricanes, or earth quakes, then in my view your on your own, so don't expect the government to pay for damages where you chose to live, you do have a choice, unless you are a needy person that sees them selves as victims, and boy we got a lot of them these days.

you shouldn't have to depend on your country's government to take care of you, you need to take care of your self. its always majority rules even if you dont like it, live with it, also the government isnt taking care of anyone exept for ethier lazy people who wont get a job and people who won't stop smoking the leaf, or just people who cant get by, but get back on there feet (thats fine) but still people need to solve more things for them self's and stop being so winey when things dont go there way.

No, not at the present time. We need a new President who cares more about our country and less about Iraq.
