Unfortunately I think many people attribute too much of his success to the excellent Edmonton squad that surrounded him, many feel his numbers are inflated and he wouldn't have made quite an impact if he had been playing somewhere else. I think if you believe that, then you have to believe it about everyone on that team.
I don't agree that he should be punished for being in a good situation, he was still a great player who took advantage of his opportunity.
It might be appropriate to have a team induction catergory to celebrate some of the best teams ever assembled, but I agree and think there should be a spot for him in Toronto.

His numbers probably dictate him being there but like previous poster said, alot of his success was attributed to being on a scoring machine team but IMO 6 cups and good stats should have done it.
It probably didn't help that he is apparently an A hole. Was a brutal people person, terrible with the media, a dead beat dad who wouldn't pay child support, and I am not trying to be funny when I say that I have heard several rumours over the years about his sexuality. Homosexuality that is. Probably just an urban myth but who knows.
A bigger debate seems to be why Paul Henderson is not in the HHOF. He scored the most rememberable goal in perhaps all of hockey history. I guess Bobby Orr's is memorable too but Henderson's takes the cake. Now, his stats don't come close to Anderson's, who was close to a point a game guy. Anderson actually had about 1000 points to Henderson's 500 in the NHL and 300 in the WHA.
An argument can be made for both. For Henderson, it is not the Hockey Hall of Stats, it is Fame and he is pretty famous but I don't think he deserves to be there based on a few goals in a series. As for Anderson, yeah, while I am on the bubble about it, I'd say he was snubbed.

That is a good question. I guess the question is, how many Oilers from that era should make it?
Let's see - Gretzky, Messier, Kurri, Coffey, Fuhr -- Anderson is at best the sixth-best player on the Oilers. Kevin Lowe and Andy Moog are also on the bubble as well. It's tough to go that deep into a roster for Hall of Famers.
Personally, though, I think Anderson has the numbers to get in. An ex-teammate of his once told me that he was an odd personality, but that shouldn't matter with the voting panel.

He played for the Leafs so they had to penalize him. LOL
No idea. Look at his numbers. A lot of penalty minutes but he won cups with two teams! (6 in total)

He deserves to be there and will get there eventually. Half that roster can make a case for the hall and most will do so successfully.
