I am 5'1/2", 112 lbs and I'm about 36(b cup)-25-35. My torso (from shoulder, across fullest part of bust, between legs, and back up to my shoulder) is 59 inches.
I need a flattering swim suit that is best for competitions and for practises. Our school colors are red and black, and I'm pretty sure it has to be a one-piece. I'm going to be a junior next school year, and I'm 16, 17 in September.
I'll spend a maximum of $50 I suppose.

Suggestions and links, please?

I have dyed Auburn/dark red hair. Medium-tan skin. Hazel-brown eyes. Red use to be my favourite colour to wear, but it clashes with my new hair colour.

Also, I suppose I'll have to spend more, because I need a swimsuit good for competition. I doubt they have that at Walmart.

Thanks everyone contributing. <3

I was a swimmer in high school, so I'll help you out. First, I would check with the school. Most of the time, the team will pick out the color suits they want for each season and you'll order them as a team. You pay for them yourself, and you keep them at the end of the season; for hygiene purposes, of course.

As for practice, Speedo is one of the best companies for good quality suits. For your practice suits I would go with what fits comfortably. If that's too big, that's actually OK. During practice it's common to wear 2 suits. It creates drag and make the body work harder and swim faster. You get so use to it, that during a competition when you only have one suit on, you're body is doing more work and swimming faster.

For your competition suit, get a size smaller. The tighter the better, because you won't create drag during your race. You won't be weighted down.

Also, try a company called Tyr (tyr.com) I remember having great suits from them too.

Don't listen to anyone above about buying a cheap suit. When you swim everyday, your suit will get the crap beat out of it. They rip, fade from the chorline, get stretched out, worn from constant washing, etc. I remember going through 5 suits in a 3 month season. Invest in at least 2 good quality practice suits and one competition suit.

Good Luck and Have fun. I loved swimming in high school, wish I could do it again.

Dolfin has an affordable line of swimwear for the competitive swimmer. http://www.dolfinswimwear.com/
Just a tip. You will need at least 2 suits. Use one for practice and one for competitions. When you swim competitively, you will find that your practice swimsuit will become threadbare very soon even professional level ones. Cheap ones (that aren't chlorine resistant) fall apart even sooner. My daughter usually wears 2 or 3 of these suits on top of each other for practice. That is called using "drag" for training. Wearing drag suits for training is like wearing weights for running. When you get into your streamlined, seldom worn and hopefully very tight (for extra speed) competition suit, you will find that you swim a little bit faster and sometimes fractions of a second make all the difference in the world. You can buy special drag suits, but this works just as well and is cheaper. Good luck!

The girl below me is also right. I had forgotten about Tyr. They offer a good quality inexpensive suit and also a practice suit that is reversible AND chlorine resistant so you get 2 colors/looks for one price. That is a little more expensive and don't plan on using it for a competitive suit as it is too thick. It's a GREAT practice suit though. Here is their website: http://www.tyr.com/shop/
Also, Aardvark has great sales, but they vary all the time. You can check their online outlet out and see what's on clearance. The suits are usually styles from the previous season. http://www.aardvarkswim.com/Get-ThumbNails.asp?parentID=7&deptID=&age=ADULT&whereFrom=MENU
If you have one locally, they ALWAYS have loads of cheap clearance suits in the store. I've even found Fastskins there for 75% off from time to time.

I would go Speedo since they're the best and not to mention very well made. When I was competing this is the only thing I wore and their suits last a long time. They may be more expensive, but it will be worth it to get a suit that is well made and will last you a long time.
