Can an employer give you a check on payday, but tell you that you cant cash it untill he gives you the go ahead? My employer does this at least twice a month, and i need to know if this is a violation of labor codes? Or is this a loop hole becouse you got the check on the established day regardless off when you can cash it?

If the check was dated that same day you got it, you should go to the bank that issued the check and cash it there if you can.
If you can't, go to your bank and cash it. If you get charged with insufficient funds, give the bill to your employer. If he doesn't pay it, find your self another job.
Your employer has a very poor cash flow. He's either very smart and doesn't want to release the cash right away, or he's broke until those days he says it's okay to cash the check.
Also, you can be really nasty and cash the check. If it bounces, and your employer won't cover it and the costs of the overcharges, you can sue the employer for the face value of the check plus the extra charges.

Actually, no your employer can't get by with that. I suggest you cash the check at the bank it was issued from. That way you do not get stuck with the charges for non sufficient funds.

Absolutely not. In fact they would be in serious trouble by the State Department of Labor (especially California that does not tolerate too many employer offenses/abuses.)

I would look for another job. I suspect business isn't good and your employeer is having a hard time making payroll.
