How difficult will a degree in Computer Science be? Are all the assignments set there only programming assignments or will there be other types of assignments?

For example, in the subject Expert System, wil its assignments set only programming type assignments or will there be others? Likewise, is there a programming assignment for Computer Security?

Thanks.

if you want to work with computers and don't have life beside it then go for it. computer science degree curriculum is behind the industry. Programming assignments are not real world stuff and easy. You have some research papers too. Worst part is group projects. It depends on the subject of the course you are taking.

Instead of computer science, there is computer information system from school of business rather than school of science.

The focus of computer science is math and science.(Artificial intelligent….)
Computer information system focus is on business. (databases…)
There will be soon new focus in networking, security, …
But for now, it doesn’t matter which one you get, your first job will determine your specialty

But fact is they don’t teach you anything you need to know to find the job in school. I argued this with one of my professors. Asked for less emphasize on “finding the shortest distance between two points” and at least one course teaching the latest technologies. He said “we don’t send out coders here, we send out scientists.”

I have Master’s degree in computer science. I love to go back for my PHD one day if I get chance to work computerized devices for medical industry. You have to go all the way to end to get it or it doesn’t worth it.

If you are looking to get good job, you have to learn and keep up with industry on your own. You are student for life. By the time you become expert and experienced in what you do, everything has changed and you need to learn new stuff. hopefully your job will pay for trainning.

The older you get, the harder to change/find jobs. Because your learning abilities decreases. Unless you get your self to some management level at some point and stop designing and coding. Or become CEO and founder of some small company.

Don’t worry about how hard it is to get a degree? It all depends on the school and the instructor of the course. It is only 4 years. Think about how much you want to work after you graduated and how much you want to live.

It's usually divided into programming and theory assignments.

It can be difficult because computer science people are usually terrible at communication.

Not worth it. Go for a math degree or a science degree. Then if you want to do anything computer wise and it fails you have a backup :)
