Does anyone remember from when they were pregnant or know because they are pregnant now, what the rate of heartbeat means? I think it is faster if it's a girl, but I've heard the other way around too! Faster if girl, slower if boy? or Faster if Boy, slower if girl? Serious answers only PLEASE.

I always heard a faster heartbeat = a girl, and a slower heartbeat = a boy.

But then again, that depends on who you ask. Different doctors and nurses have very different opinions.

My daughter's OB/GYN swears this is an old wives' tale and there's no truth to it.

My daughter's home health nurse swears that it IS true, and in fact, she believes my daughter is carrying a boy based on a heartrate in the 140s.

My own OB/GYN said there "may" be some truth to it, but no one really knows.

I've had many sonographers who've said "nope, it's a myth" while others claim "oh yes, there IS truth to that."

I give up!

I am 23 weeks pregnant and I found out 2 weeks ago that I am for sure having a boy. His heartbeat has always been over 150, and the myth is that over 140 is a girl and under is a boy. There's a 50/50 chance that it could be accurate.
And as for the guy who said that his wife is a pediatrician and that all you need is a simple blood test to determine the sex, that is not true. Not sure what he has been smoking, but the most reliable test to determine the sex would be an amniocentisis, then next in line would be an ultrasound. But of course, the only for sure thing is the actual birth.
Congratulations!

It's anything over 140 is supposed to be a be a girl and anything under a boy. Everything about my pregnancy was saying girl. The heart beat was always over 150. I found out Tuesday, it's a lil boy. Good luck.

There really is no correlation between the heart rate and gender.

Here is an excerpt from an article on a research study they conducted with thousands of pregnancies:

One of the first questions asked, and easiest answered, was, "Does the fetal heart rate predict the sex of the baby?" We performed a t-Test of the means for females and males and found no significant difference (mean for females = 149.26, males = 149.38; p = 0.929; +/-1SD: females = 13.8, males = 13.1). The means were less than a quarter of a beat per minute (BPM) different, with two standard deviations being approximately +/- 26 BPM for both genders. A quarter of a BPM with that much variation is nothing.

A normal fetal heart rate usually is between 120 and 160 beats per minute. While rumors abound, the truth is there is no difference between the girls' or boys' heart rate.

hmm, i'm not quite sure, i think i've heard if it's a faster heartbeat it's a boy, but i can't remember who told me. you can always go to google and type that in. but at 19 weeks you should be able to tell the sex of the baby on an ultrasound, that's when i found out.

many people say that if its 140 or lower it's a boy and over 140 is a girl. however, almost all of my checkups showed a heart rate of 145-160. the doctors were guessing a girl based on that and the way i was carrying, but today is my son's first birthday! if you really want to know, you'll have to wait for the ultrasound. :-)

It is actually just an Old Wives Tale that the baby's heart rate will let you know if it is a boy or a girl.
