That really depends....i dont know much from history books myself. But i know about my own ancestors who were irish and moved to Aus in the early 1800's. They just came over here looking for a better life and they found it. My family settled in Duntroon (The Australian Capital Territory) or otherwise known as Capital Hill - where Parliament House sits. They leased land from the Owner and did cattle farming and wheat production. They ended up moving 5-6 hours North East of Canberra and making a life 2 hours away from Sydney. But supposedly they were seen as being some of the first Pioneers of the Australian Capital. So not all Irish had problems. Some thrived.
