People are so stupid, these people who say freedom of speech is limited, yes you cannot make verbal threats or cause mass hysteria, Opie and Anthony did neither, Imus did neither, JV and Elvis did neither. Also, entertainment is held to a different standard then an office setting, they are, or were allowed to joke. The problem is special interests groups are ruining America and trying to tell everyone what they can listen to, I am smart enough to know what I want to listen to and if these people are to stupid to realize they can change the channel that is their problem. I love Opie and Anthony and I am outraged at their suspension, I have cancelled my subscription to XM and sent a letter and email to the higher ups in the company expressing my outrage with their lies, uncensored, BS! Anyone who is offended by what someone else says should grow up, stop being a baby and realize stick and stones may break my bone sbut words can never hurt me, funny first graders get it but some of these people who post on here dont? Imus being fired is going to cost his company millions because he is going to win his law suit. The Opie and Anthony suspension is going to cost XM a lot, 40,000 + subscriptions have been cancelled since the announcement of the suspension and a number of big sponsors have pulled their contracts in protest of the suspension. Anyone who supports thsi witch hunt is unAmerican, it is freedom of speech, LEARN WHAT IT IS! All these people who are offended should stop being crybaby hyporcrites!

You are an idiot. Freedom of speech doesn't mean some media company has to pay for it. It means that you are free to say what you want by your own devises without threat of imprisonment. Let Imus/Opie/whoever, start their own media outlet. They are also free to stand on a street corner and speak all they want.

Personally I only subscribed to XM for O&A so this is of particular importance to the many people like myself. This country has become the largest gathering of little girls this planet has seen. Someone called me a "cracker," lets execute them. Or wait, maybe I could just...um...get over it? Wow, what a concept.

Regardless of who said it, or who it was about, it's still just a phrase, a word, or maybe even a complete sentence. Last time I checked the dictionary didn't kill people, nor did my grade school vocabulary book. They are words, just get over it already. WIth all the problems this world has today we've decided that words...WORDS...are the most vital "threat" we need to address. The Constitution of this great nation guarantees people the right to freedom of speech, not freedom of speech that I approve of.

In addition, as is suggested in the question, when did the government forbid the use of radio dials and tuners in this country. Did they just say "rape the secretary of state?" Oh no, what shall I do...end the careers of two pop culture icons, thats what! I'm only high school educated, I can't possibly be able to operate a radio fluently enough to change the channel, Why would someone so ridiculously, overbearingly sensitive to comments like the one in question here be listening to a program known for its crude humor on an uncensored channel of a pay satellite radio service.

And lastly. XM radio went out of there way to warn people of the "obscene" radio they were going to be privileged to. There are a ridiculous number of on air commercials about the nature of the programming on the channel, as well as, the parental control service that XM gives its users access to. The channel itself is labeled with the "xL" logo to denote uncensored material and it's mentioned, again, a remarkable number of times during the day. And last but not least, if you manage to maneuver your SATELLITE receiver (so you already know what you may be in store for) to XM 202, you know who the hell Opie and Anthony are and you aren't expecting bed time stories.

So in conclusion, the fact that XM has caved into pressure that special interest groups have been placing on them sickens me. Just knowing that something I have a Constitutional right to say may get me in hot water because a "Nappy-Headed A**hole" or a special interest group thinks it offends them even though they don't listen to the radio show and needed it brought to their attention by a mindless drone working for them makes me want to retch. I canceled my XM sub because of this absurd action on their part, and I urge others to do the same. Also, join the PAC (People Against Censorship). If we allow this to go on unopposed we are forfeiting the rights countess people have fought and died for to protect.

And P.S. I only censored this answer so as not to offend anybody who might take it upon themselves to police what I say and get this post removed. So anyone who feels this is hypocritical, write your congressman and ask for a clarification of the first amendment, because even here I can't say what I want or have said on my blog.

It seems that everyone has to be "politically correct" now-a-day's. Everyone is so worried about what other people think and what other people say instead of worrying about themselves. As far as if it were said about one of my family members as someone else had previously answered...let me remind you of the saying that was said when I was a kid "Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me".....remember that??? If you let what other people say affect how you live your life as a person and as who you are then I am sorry to say this but you care too much what other people think about you. Not everyone is going to like the way you look, or the way you act, or the way you present yourself, or even the way you speak.....not everyone is going to like you. There will not be any rhyme nor reason for it.....do I lose sleep over it? Nope!! It's time for people to check themselves and start living life instead of worrying about what everyone else is doing or saying. I hope this helps answer your question.

in those cases its not about freedom of speech its about advertising revenues - the stations and networks try their hardest to homogenize their content so that no group is alienated and thereby becomes a non-listener - unfortunately our politicians have also adapted this revenue intensive process so they can raise funds and cash in votes and while it may not impact your freedom of speech it is certainly modifying the rule of law in the USA.

There's a limit to the First Amendment; for example, you can't say that you want the president killed, people will take you seriously just like they did with the girl on Myspace.

You got my AMEN. I personally feel that people are too lazy to police themselves and that parents want someone to parent for them, that way they don't have to preview anything for their kids.
I remember when my parents would watch something that was PG or more before I could watch it. Parents want groups of watchdogs watching out for their kids nowadays.

Well, I don't like your spelling but I read the question, any way.
Being in the public surrounds, one must present a reasonable facsimile of care. Just because we have freedom of speech does not mean one can go around SLANDERING people. That is NOT allowed. Freedom of speech is more about freedom to talk about the gov't....or the system.......not to hurt peoples' feelings.............
