The recommendation is Premium, and if you can afford a Mercedes, there is NO reason to be running anything else, period. Switching to regular will NOT save you money, because as others have pointed out, you will see a decrease in your mileage. Running regular gas for a long period of time will lead to expensive repairs.

honestly with the type of car you have, you should only see a big impact from things like a tune up such as oil change, plugs, air filter or fresh o2 sensor/s. if you had a performance engine it would be one thing, but yours you're OK with regular. just make sure you keep up with the regular maintenance and with AWD cars, make sure the tire pressure is always where it should be.

im surprised a car like that wouldnt knock like crazy when a crapy dodge intrepid needed mid just to run good. if it runs good keep with base but it'll be more power for premium. or you could get an octane booster.

the octane rating determines the resistance to heat i think.
basically if your car spark knocks(preignition, detonation) then you need premium, if it doesn't then regular is fine :)
