Were we not to try for smiles for most of us?

Competitions are for those who enjoy competing. Competing is not only about winning, it is the process itself that some people like. It is very exciting but usually safe at the same time: if you don't win you are OK, you just didn't get the trophy, not a big deal. Your skill is still with you, and you haven't lost anything. Those who don't like it don't have to compete.

The one who smiles is the one who understands that you got to go beyond contests and competition to smile.

One who 'participates' in the contests and competition will cry inspite of winning because...winning is never constant.

It`s called supply and demand. It is also your choice whether you get involved or not. I agree that competition is a loser`s game, but I would hardly try to convince anyone of that. The tears do end up serving a purpose in the long run anyways. They inform you of what it is that you really want. Focus on that and you`re away in a hack.
