There's Ben Cartwright (Bonanza), Ward Clever (Leave It to Beaver) and Dr. Huxtable (The Cosby Show). Take your pick.

That's a toss up between Andy Griffith and Cliff Huxtable. I was JUST talking to my students about them today! :)
Andy had just one kid, so he was able to give his son the attention and guidance he needed. On the other hand, he lived in a small town where nothing really horrible happened, so it doesn't seem like it'd be all that difficult to be the sheriff of town AND keep your kid out of trouble.
Cliff was able to raise five children AND his granddaughter Olivia. His house was a hang-out hot spot for his kids' friends because he was so fun AND educational. He raised his children in a loving and successful African American home in Brooklyn, New York.
Andy's parenting style was subtle, just like his personality. He preferred to let things take their course and have Opie learn from his mistakes. Cliff seemed more like a boisterous "I told you this is what would happen" sort of guy.
Even though I think both dads rock, I have to lean towards Cliff. The lessons learned from Cosby's show were relevant to the times and are a great commentary on our society even still. Plus I can still remember watching the very first episode with my mom and dad and instantly falling in love. AND Griffith went to UNC-Chapel Hill. That's enough to discredit him completely.
So Cliff Huxtable. Best TV dad EVER.

Oh my God! I'm the first to say Charles Ingalls or Michael Landon???
He and Caroline were the reason I watched that show!!!
Such loving, caring, involved parents. And a tender sweet adoring couple to each other.
Through the hard times leaning on their strong family ties, each and every one basking in the good times....
AND the LAUGHTER!!!!
Such joy and singing in the home, bringing good prespective to their fellows in the community.
Past the wholesome values, every hug he (they) gave to Mary, Half Pint (Laura) and Carrie and Baby Grace... those hugs they gave to me also. And God in Heaven knew I needed them.
Here's to more Charles Ingalls incarnating into our time, and raising our children.
And thanks Babe for being as close to the dream husband and father as I could hope for!!

Tim Allen gets the blue ribbon; he's humble and admits through his gaffs that guys are just clueless about girl stuff most of the time.
Dr. Huxtable gets the red ribbon; he's a 'cool' dad and his parenting style isn't too shabby.
That guy in 'Who's the Boss' gets the green; for some reason he keeps poppin' up - maybe because SHE's the boss!LOL

That's a hard one. Hugh Beaumont on Leave it to Beaver, Robert Young on Father knows best, or Fred McMurray on My Three Sons.
