Romeo and Juliet are not supposed to love eachother. Their families are basically enemies. However, as the play proceeds, Juliet and Romeo expriences "love at first sight." They are secretly married to each other, but Juliet's family does not know that. They make marriage plans for Paris (who loves Juliet) and Juliet. However, Juliet is already married and she does not have any feelings for Parris. Eventually, Romeo is banned because he ends up killing Tybalt in a fight. Juliet is sad about this, and she takes a potion given by Friar Laurence. . Friar Laurence tells Juliet to take a potion simulating death, allowing Romeo to take her away. However, the news spreads that Juliet is dead, and Romeo thinks it is for real. He goes to her grave in secret and sees in his own eyes that she is "dead" when she really isn't. He is so sad that he commits a suicide. When Juliet wakes up, she sees that Romeo is dead. She commits a suicide as well. That ends the lover's story, a very tragic and sad event.

Romeo and Juliet is a tragic story, not only because they committed suicide for love, but because the outcome was so avoidable.
If the apothecary had complied with the law and refused to sell Romeo the poison, he might not have died. If Juleit had awakened just a few minutes earlier, Romeo would have seen that she was alive and wouldn't have killed himself.
Again, if Mercutio hadn't decided to fight Tybalt, he wouldn't have died, Romeo wouldn't kill Tybalt in revenge, Romeo wouldn't be banished, and Juliet wouldn't be rushed to the altar. If Paris had realized that Juliet didn't love him, or if he had scheduled the wedding later, Juliet wouldn't have faked her death.
They are tragic because there was hope for them to live at so many points in the story, yet they ended up dying.

Their families didn't get along so when they got married they though it might end the fued between the families, but it got worse when someone dies from families, which Romeo kills her Cousin Tybalt. And when Romeo hears that Juliet is dead he buys some poison to kill hisself. And in the end they both died together because they loved each other.

Two households, both alike in dignity,
In fair Verona, where we lay our scene,
From ancient grudge break to new mutiny,
Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean.
From forth the fatal loins of these two foes
A pair of star-cross’d lovers take their life;
Whose misadventur’d piteous overthrows
Do with their death bury their parents’ strife.
The fearful passage of their death-mark’d love,
And the continuance of their parents’ rage,
Which, but their children’s end, nought could remove,
Is now the two hours’ traffick of our stage;
The which if you with patient ears attend,
What here shall miss, our toil shall strive to mend.

They are tragic because there was a war over the seeing each other. They had love and died because of a misunderstanding.
