Canadian troops fought valiantly and tenaciously in every battle they participated in. They were the bulk of the force lost during the raid on Dieppe, which was a doomed experiment from the start. Canadian troops were the ones to finally crack Monte Cassino in Italy. Their contribution to the war effort was far greater than the size or their forces would have indicated.

In other aspects of the war, the Canadian Navy was the third largest in the world at the end of the war and was largely responsible for victory in the Battle of the Atlantic. Also Canada provided much excellent training to RAF aircrews and also provided many men for those crews.

One German general was quoted as saying that the only Allied troops he was really scared of was the Canadians.
