It is the name of the founder of the company.
To all the knowledgeable above, you may be surprised by all the MANY industries Kawasaki is involved with in the world. It is much more then motorcycles.

No real meaning, there was a Mr .Kawasaki who founded the company. There was a Mr. Honda too, but Toyota was founded by a Mr. Toyoda, but changed the name for it to sound better.

There was actually a letter in Performance Bikes magazine in about 1994 asking this question... and a Japanese linguistics tutor answered it. It's been a long time, but it means something like 'place of many leaves' or 'village near a mountain' or something.
