she told me if i were to finish school, get a better income, and buy a new house in a new area then she would consider me for the future. I was trying to rescue her from the APL and my family loved her. now we are told they will not give her to us, or any other dog in the future unless i move. is this discrimination?

cookie you are so wrong. i am not rich and if i were i probably would have been stupid enough to buy a dog at a pet store at top dollars instead of trying to save one's life. Where I live is the average neighborhood. some have even said that they think we are rich because of what we have around here but I do not see that.

For the rest of the comments thus far, I thank you all. I know it is not real discrimination I am just upset about being rejected when I thought I was doing good and have found the dog for our family. I am going to take all the advice thus far combined and use it. Thanks.

This is not new or uncommon. It is descrimination, but within their rights. They don't want to take animals back after giving them to a family, and I think they have profiling now on the kinds of people they will and won't give pets to.

Wow...your neighborhood must be poor, and disgusting...

You have to live in a pretty bad place for them to turn you down for that reason. They're trying to protect the dog. It's not discrimination at all...

They're just trying to make sure the dog doesn't come back to them.

They can do whatever they want to when it comes to placing dogs that are already in their care.

don't goto a shelter, just look in your local paper. it amazes me how they'd rather have an animal sit in lock up rather than goto a family who would show that animal some love.
Then they have the nerve to ask you for donations :)
