One cannot be "distracted" if one does not allow onself to indulge in such trivialities to begin with. Turn off your t.v.

Hmm, you've got a major point there. We really don't need to care about other people's lives, whether they're celebrities or not. But to be honest, I hadn't thought about all that as a distraction before. Hmm. You just might be right - it certainly would make all that suddenly be useful now. *laughs* Seeing as how some celebrity's lifestyle is entirely useless to me since 1) I don't care about what someone else is wearing 2) I don't care how much money they've got and 3) what the hell is the point of it all if all they're going to end up with is some award and "recognition" for a movie they played in or some song they wrote. Honestly. It doesn't seem all that important. Nothing they tell us is entirely true, and if it is it's about their hairstyle or something. So yeah, popular culture certainly seems like a serious distraction, especially from the problems that really need to be addressed.

No. It is a distraction, but it's largely self-inflicted, not a convoluted plot. You don't know about what the World Bank is up to because it's boring, not because you're being brainwashed into watching Survivor by the Illuminati.

intentionally? probably not, but it helps. popular media is driven by one thing - $$$$. Paris Hilton and Sanjaya have higher ratings from the prized target demographic of marketing departments. J-lo will sell lots of clothes, tampons and "bling". What does news about corruption and crimes sell?

Umm, no, it's not a distraction. Just keep watching Survivor and get those silly thoughts out of your head. Support our troops, remember?

Big business gives us affordably priced items. Big business gives us jobs. Big business pays more taxes than anything else.
Big business serves us.
