None of these will be put online, I just want them to share info back and forth and both be able to print. How do I set this up? Do I need any specific software to do so or will windows allow this? I've got them both plugged in now but they don't see each other. If anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you,
Lori

In addition to the information above you need to set the IP addresses for each machine and set the workgroup name.

Click on Control Panel, Network Connections, Local Area Connection.. Then find TCP/IP Click on it then click use the following IP address.
On one machine put something like 192.168.1.10 with a subnet of 255.255.255.0 on the other machine make it 192.168.1.11 (do not set the same number add 1 to the end) use the same subnet.

That will put them on the same IP network and once printer and file shareing is enabled and the workgroup set you should be good to go.

The workgroup setting is under My Computer, Properties.
Right click My Computer, the click properties, the second tab will say computer name, check and make sure the WORKGROUP name is the same on both machines! If not click change and make them the same name.

The idea is to connect both computers to the hub, and the printer is connected to one of the computers.

In Win XP, you need to share the printer, right click on the printer and choose Sharing.

From the other computer \\nameoftheothercomputer

You can share also folders with right click on the folder, sharing.
