Those who use Stellarium (i would advise you download it if you have a telescope etc.) it gives a 3D accurate and syncronised view of where and when everything is once you have set up where u are etc.

Looking at venus now on the stellarium software shows that venus is too low for it to be that bright light you see in the west!

For stellarium software just type it in google, the first site that comes up select it, then you may have to scroll down a bit for it....it is quality software!

Well, I just checked Stellarium and then I went outside and had a look.
Sorry, but I believe the sky. It's definitely Venus, hanging below the twins of Gemini.

You have obviously made some kind of error in using your software, because that bright star high in the west IS Venus. I looked at it through my telescope recently, and sure enough, it looks just like Venus. Plus all the astronomy books, magazines, web sites and so on will tell you it is Venus. Like the source for example.

I can only imagine you screwed up the settings for your co-ordinates.
It's Venus, nothing else it could be.

PS I loaded up the program, set my local lat & long, got the time right, looked in the right direction and - Dd-da! - there was Venus. Recheck your location and time settings.

Could be the setting sun, try using your telescope at night.
