Tricksters are part of the Folklore of most of the cultures of this world. They are usually placed between Gods and evil entities in a pantheon, where they tease, but sometimes help Humankind.

The Coyote is the first that comes to mind, the Trickster in several Native American/First Nation cultures. Charles de Lint's "Medicine Road" and "Trader" include modern stories of the Trickster.
And there's Loki, the Norse trickster.
