Hi, I'm 34 weeks pregnant. I have an 11mt old, a 3 yr old and I have gestational diabetes. The problem is that I haven't done well on the diet. To date, I've gained 2 lbs. I have no appetite at all. I've forced myself to eat about 4 out of my 6 meals and I've tested about the same. Last week my doctor was very disappointed and asked if I wanted to try the diet again. My sugar isn't high, I'm just not eating enough. I know that when I see her tomorrow, she's going to be upset, that I'm seriously doing the best that I can do. What can my doctor do to me because I know that I'm not healthy right now. Will she induce me? I feel ashamed.

I had Gestational Diabetes with my 4th pregnancy. I had much the same problems as you are experiencing. I just wasn't hungry most of the time and was never able to gain weight. I actually weighed about 25 pounds less at the end of my pregnancy than I did before I was pregnant. As long as your baby is thriving well, I think she will want to keep you pregnant as long as possible so the baby can develop. Moms with Gestational Diabetes sometimes are induced or the baby is taken C-section if the baby becomes too large. If you have not had an appointment with a dietitian or if it has been awhile since you have seen him/her, then I would suggest that you ask your doctor to send you to talk to him/her. He/She may be able to adjust your meal plan to better fit your needs. There is no need to feel ashamed if you are doing the best you can. Your 3 year old and 11 month old probably eat frequently throughout the day, maybe if you eat something when they do you will be able to make an increase in your food intake. It is good to try to keep your level of carb intake consistent through the day. I had my Gestational Diabetes 10 years ago and now I am diagnosed with Glucose Intolerance, which is a pre-diabetic condition. Developing Type 2 Diabetes later in life is one of the risks to moms who have had Gestational Diabetes.

Hon, be upfront and tell your doctor all this that you just told us. There has to be some way to assist you. Just confide how you feel to your doc and see what happens. Doubt seriously that they'll induce you. You have to eat, because baby needs healthy food, hon. Good luck.

Maybe even just talking to her about how difficult it is for you will help you. Maybe emotionally, you just gotta get it out.

there is nothing that she can do. just know that doing the best you can do, is not the best that you should be doing for your baby. try harder.
