I found out I was preg. so, obviously, I quit smoking right then and there, but now my dr. and everyone else it telling me that it is hard on the baby to quit cold turkey. I dont see how gradually cutting back could be any better for my baby.

That is bullcrap! I quit cold turkey with the baby I am carrying now, who is doing great, I also quit cold turkey with my youngest who is turning 9 in September. Guess what he thrived and was over 10 pounds never an issue! I weaned myself slowly with my oldest son who battled chronic ear infections and asthma so nobody is going to tell me that quitting cold turkey is too stressful on the baby!!!! It is so much better to stop early then later!

GOOD FOR YOU!!! I AM SO PROUD OF YOU!!!!

The stress hurts the baby more than the withdrawal but that can hurt the baby too. It is better than smoking. If it doesn't cause you too much stress, and the symptoms aren't too bad, keep it up. If you can't take it, cutting back is a good deal better than smoking like a chimney. Don't worry, the baby will be fine either way. Good for you for choosing the baby's health over your habit! You get a huge KUDOS from me!

Yes, I have heard many times it puts the baby into shock. I cut down to just a couple a day then eventually quit. To be honest every now and then when I get stressed I take a puff or two. I was told that the stress you get from not smoking is actually worse on the baby than smoking. Good luck!

When i found out i was pregnant i asked the doctor if it was alright so stop smoking, well i was already 3 months along when i found out, the doctor said to cut back but that stopping could throw the baby into shock. I'm not sure either, but ur not the only one in this boat.

I went cold turkey when I found out I was pregnant and my doctor said it was fine. It clearly hasn't hurt my baby any, either.
