I used to love playing mario on my friends old nintendo back in the day so I'll have to say mario!!
Sonic is good to though but mario has the edge!!!

i prefer mario only because the sonic games have gone a bit boring over the years. but my favourite of all times is spyro

I'd say Mario because of all the games and character he has. Anybody who says Sonic has more friends is REALLY wrong, I can tell ya that.
