I have recently discovered some Indie bands/artists that I love!Like.. The Rosebuds, M.Ward, Belle & Sebastian, Moorcheeba. Do you know of anymore that would be worth checking out? Also, what do you think makes indie so much better than mainstream (at least to some of us)?
& btw, if you haven't heard it before go to myspace.com/therosebuds & at least listen to "get up get out" the others are good too. Also, go to myspace.com/thesoundofanimalsfighting and listen to "The Heretic" and tell me what you think! thanks!

Oh cool. Indie bands are good.
If you listen to Belle and Sebastian, try out Camera Obscura.
You should try out The Concretes, The Go Find, Voxtrot, Wilco, Ben Gibbard or Death Cab for Cutie.

Also, I'm not sure if you're into acoustic/folk/indie, but if you do, Elliott Smith is my idol.

My reason for liking indie more than mainstream? I'm not sure, it's sort of like giving credit to the more unkown/unpopular artists out there, instead of following the teenyboppers who obsess with Fall Out Boy or MCR.
The ones you listed are pretty good...so you're on the right track. There's lots of indie...it just takes some time. I'm not sure if anyone else will answer this, but indie is fanfreakingtastic. I love it. Hope you enjoy it too.

I am an indie artist. Being indie is great because your songs don't have to all sound like Top 40 hits to get people to respect you! Most songs on mainstream radio today don't say a lot lyrically, and a lot of them sound the same, no matter what genre they are.

i listen to a lot of underground...so it's pretty close
you might like: Ted Leo, VietNam, Sea Wolf, These United States, Black Lips, The Kingdom, Foreign Islands, Graham Coxon, The Willowz....
i think indie or lesser known bands are a lot better b/c they focus on their music and play because they like to play, not to become famous....being famous always comes after your music
i read a 2 articles on Punk Planet and Skyscraper about Ted Leo and how he was asked to sign in with major labels, but he declined and stayed at the top of the underground....it's just not the same when you're mainstream

here, these guys have a recording studio and post 4 free songs from every band that shows up http://www.daytrotter.com/

i haven't heard those you mentioned, but i definitely will
btw...VietNam, Ted Leo, and The Willowz are good :-)
and you might like The Shins too

I recently discovered a radio station - KEXP 90.3
http://www.kexp.org/home.asp?noflash=false - you can listen online and they play only indie music.

My favorite Indie bands of the moment are Great Northern, Junior Boys and Arcade Fire.

i think the best way to discover new bands is either go to myspace or yahoo! music.

myspace is kinda tricky if you dont know what ur looking for bcause they dont have radio stations. but yahoo music has like "indie" radio station and all you have to do is click and u'll find SO MANY indie bands... its crazy.

oh yea... try "beck"
he is soo good. i love the track "loser" by him. check it out.
