Republicans are preoccupied with race and gender because their base is somewhat more narrow minded than the average American. When Obama is mentioned Republicans immediately say he is inexperienced. I think that is a code word for "incapable because he's black". He's had eight years in the state legislature, nine years as a constitutional law professor, three years as a lawyer in private practice, and, by the time of the election he will have had 4 years experience in the U.S. Senate.
I agree with you on Hillary, but the criticism I most often hear is that she would not be where she is today if it were not for Bill. In other words, she's just an unqualified woman riding on her husband's coattails. In fact, however, Hillary was always interested in politics, had many years of experience as a lawyer with a prestigious firm, and a law degree from Yale. She gave up lucrative job offers in both Washington, DC and New York City to live in Arkansas with Bill, and she clearly could have had a successful political career if she had not married Bill.
In any case, it's disheartening that most of the arguments against these two candidates are nothing more than disguised racism and sexism.

I guess you're talking about that big-time conservative, Joe Biden, talking about Obama as the first clean articulate black presidential candidate. Or maybe all those conservative editorialists at the LA Times asking whether or not Obama was black enough? Or maybe conservative icon Hillary Clinton doing the "Please Think Of Me As A Working Mother" Campaign Tour.
All I hear conservatives asking about these candidates are why Obama thinks he can run the country after a grueling two years in the Senate, or how Hillary plans to pay for Universal Health Care, or how either of them would deal with the Iraq situation. I believe you guys are the ones with the obsession, my friend.

I ALWAYS deal with the issues. If Obama had the experience and ideas that I look for, he'd have my vote. Believe it or not, color doesn't enter in. Same with Hillary. Eight years as 1st Lady doesn't necessarily qualify one to be President, nor does being "in the blossom of power"(whatever that is).
No, all conservatives are not middle aged white men, etc. Are all Liberals wanna be Michael Moores and quasi socialists?? Please don't over-generalize, it's too easy to refute your argument.

I think you are mistaken friend, we are the ones that do not make issue of race and gender. We are the ones that want to have that question removed and have a truly colorless society. It is liberals that make a point of diversity and constantly bring up issues of race and gender. Cons don't like Obama because he is an asshole, with little or no experience in government, and a liberal, not because he is black. Cons do not like Hillary because she is a ***** and a far-left liberal, not because she is a woman.
