Is the Pope Catholic?

Quote from XXShorty:
yes it was wrong but who on earth could foretell someone evil sneaking in a room and taking someone elses child, lets find maddy and then dwell on all the what if's whys and buts after

I agree the time for the mind-bogglingly stupid parents to face justice is when Madeline is found, or at least a little while away yet if she isn't. However, if you are a parent every cell in your body tells you to take care of them and not put them in harm's way unnecessarily. It is your job to forsee such obvious risks!! I suggest that it would be IMPOSSIBLE for a parent to make the decision about whether to leave them alone or not without some cursory mental examination of the risks involved. These 'parents' made exactly this kind of brief risk analysis but incredibly thought it a risk worth taking for (yet another) meal out with friends. Even if they bizarrely never imagined the remote possibility of a stranger coming into the (unlocked!!!!) room (and what parent would not imagine that these days, come on!) they MUST have at least considered that there were other risks to the children. How about choking, accidents, fire or just the terror and distress a small child would feel waking up and realising the parents are not there. I have a 3 yr old who often wakes up screaming the place down, the thought of this happening and us not being there is awful.

It is absolutely inconceivable that they made their decision to leave their children alone without mentally ticking off certain risks they were taking. They simply dismissed all risks as minor and not worth cramping their style for. Why bother having kids if you are the kind of people who on holiday are dropping them off at the creche all day and leaving them alone at night so you can pretend you are cool and still just a couple!?

This pair are a complete and utter disgrace to the name 'parents' and I really hope when this is resolved one way or the other that they face neglect charges, whether in Portugal or back here. I don't want to see them in prison due to the twins (and hopefully a safely returned Madeline) but I do want them to answer properly for what they have done, it is the least they can do for the ill-deserved daughter they have so terribly (hopefully not fatally) let down.

I'm sure that we all hope and pray for Maddie's safe return, although after 2 weeks, I'm not sure she will be found. If she is, what damage will have been done to her little mind, far less her body. The parents are both doctors......getting loads of support and sympathy. If they were from a council estate and the child was taken from a caravan park, would they be getting all this attention and support? I think not. They would be getting hammered in the press. The child is the priority but we should think about society's attitude - no child is loved more or less because of the parents' wealth, or lack of. NO parents should ever leave their children alone, just to go off and have a drink or a meal or whatever. Get Maddie home safe and then hit the parents with every law of child abuse that can be found.

,maddie's safety is the the most important issue!!!!!!!!!!
but: the gran of the the poor child who was killed by a dangerous dog is charged with manslaughter, and so she should ,WHY ?
if you are in care of a child you are responsible for there safety.
i have 5 children and pray i can protect them ,the world is a dangerous place.
they were to young to leave alone
regardless of the weirdos in the world them children all three could of
burnt
drowned
choked
suffocated
to add just a few
my basic point is at this present time lets all pray for maddie
and when this whole dreadful event comes to a head
the parents should be charged with the full force of the law

p.s. next time as a parent and your letting your young child go some where or stay in on there own if your thinking " WELL THEY WILL BE OK , WHATS THE WORST THAT CAN HAPPEN" think again!!!!!!!!!

This is proof positive that - in this day and age - it's simply not appropriate to leave your young children alone for even a minute. I'm sure the parents are remorseful; what I don't understand is why they have not been charged with neglect. In the U.S., I believe they would have been. Still, it's a shame that there are so many evil people in the world. When I was a kid, we left our doors unlocked, and my parents left me alone all the time without fear of being abducted. It's tragic. -RKO- 05/17/07

Duh! 3 children under the age of 4 alone in a hotel room in a foreign country. While mum and dad go out for dinner with friends. It's neglect, plain and simple, but because the parents are educated with decent jobs and well spoken and all that no-one (no-one "official" that is) seems to see it that way. What if one of the kids had become ill, or had a nightmare, or just plain woke up and wanted mummy? Or there'd been a fire at the hotel or something? I can't believe that intelligent people would do something that un-utterably stupid.

The long and short of it is that if they had been more responsible and not left 3 very young children alone, then Madeline would not have been abducted - so yes it was wrong for them to do that. You should not bring a child into the world and not take complete reponsibilty for their well-being and safety. However they are now paying the ultimate price as is poor Madeline. I hope she is safe and is returned to her family, as does everybody im sure.

Its the last thing a parent wants to hear. The focus should now be on finding the child and the many other missing children throughout Europe.
