ActionScript gives developers more control over the Flash application they are building. Flash in and of itself is limited to the types of animations and problem-solving it can do. For example, if I wanted a quiz in Flash, there is nothing inherently in the program that would add the scores and calculate a total. So a developer must use ActionScript to write something like answer1points + answer2points + answer3points = totalpoints.

It is used for a wide range of things, from simple to complex animations, form submissions, website development, games and more.
