I'd really like to know more about it. What little I could find, sounds almost like a repeat of the disastrous amnesty bill of 1986. I hope I'm wrong. I really like to think that something was learned from that and that our elected representatives will make better decisions this time around. I don't claim to have the answers, but it can be frightening to think what these politicians will base their decisions on. It's usually not what is in the best interest for the US.
Does anyone know where I can read the proposed immigration overhaul agreement that was made on Thursday by some key democratic and republican senators?
Thanks

I agree with Vast. But I don't know that too many illegals will decide to go the amnesty route. Why should they pay a 5000 fine and become American citizens and loose a lot of the benefits they have by being illegal? Also the head of an illegal household has to go back to the country they came from and apply for citizenship like law abiding people. Now the 64 dollar question to me is what is the penalty for illegals if they decide not to take this amnesty? I mean they have been so tough on them all ready lol. It's really a shame folks it seems apparent to me that our politicians from both sides of the isle are selling out their country for potential votes of illigals. And for kickbacks they will get from their friends who employ these people. But I see big union stepping in some how to make money off of them. And to control their vote for the Democrat party. Serves the Republicans right for being so spineless on this matter. So long America as we once new it.

DeMint Statement on Immigration Deal

May 17th, 2007 - Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator DeMint made the following statement:

“I hope we don't take a thousand page bill written in secret and try to ram it through the Senate in a few days. This is a very important issue for America and we need time to debate it.”

“But the little we do know about the bill is troubling. According to reports, the bill contains a new 'Z Visa' that allows those who entered our country illegally to stay here permanently without ever returning home. This rewards people who broke the law with permanent legal status, and puts them ahead of millions of law-abiding immigrants waiting to come to America. I don't care how you try to spin it, this is amnesty.”

My favorite part of the article is this outright lie:

Arlen Specter said, "It is not amnesty. This will restore the rule of law."

Of course it's amnesty. Will the illegals in America be deported and moved to the back of the line relative to legal candidates? No? Then it's Amnesty.

Immigration reform has been an argument for it sluggish now, and the federal government is asleep on the wheel in this one. Oklahoma has observed 'legislations 1804' to handle the difficulty. greater states are thinking comparable legislations. i'm hoping the feds awaken and look after this subject.

It is an Amnesty Bill with some bells and whistles, this article is a good summation of what the bill entails.

However, the last breakthrough gave points for family ties, so read with a grain of salt. The bill will be 700 pages long, I'm sure, and will renege on half of the fence already voted into law.
