All that is, is a justification to avoid having to take responsibility for their own actions. It's a convenient cop-out. It's along the lines of that old "the DEVIL made me do it!" defense. Many of us just don't buy it!

Oh, contrare...

I believe in God. And I also know that homosexuality is genetic. I am not so sure why this is so hard to understand for some people. It is not even like evolution, which is a theory. I believe in evolution, too, based on the evidence, but the homosexual issue is different. It has been proven by fact that there is a genetic causation.

And what do you mean by "look at nature?" Nature is full of examples of homosexual acts. Monkeys, dolphins, and bears have all been shown to commit acts of homosexuality. That is the very reason that people DO believe that people are "born" homosexual.

Making the argument you are is like saying that the sun can't exist because your perception of God says it can't be true. And yet, there it is. Think about it. Christians once believed that the sun revolved around the earth, based on how they interpreted the Bible. Do you believe that the sun revolves around the earth? No. But you still believe in the Bible and God, right? Why is homosexuality any different? The fact is that it isn't.

It is true that some Christians believe that gays cannot be born gay, but you know what? All Christians don't believe that. All it takes is some common sense. There is nothing in the Bible that says that common sense is a bad thing.

Oh, but the Bible is against homosexuality! Oh no! Well, guess what? The Bible says that women should always cover their hair and that men should not cut the hair over their ears, but how many Christians follow this? Not very many. The reason is that, as holy as it may be, the Bible is subject to interpretation and exists within a context. The context, as far as homosexuality is concerned, is this: Jews in the Old Testament and Christians in the New Testement were growing in a hostile world from a small group. In order to survive and in order to separate themselves from those around them, homosexuality was banned. It was a socio-cultural issue that simply does not apply anymore, just like eating pork or cutting your hair a certain way doesn't apply.

God is not a crazy, arbitrary God. He is a rational, scientific God. There is a reason for everything he does. If you don't believe me... look at nature.

p.s. I know I've already written a lot, but I just wanted to add one more thing. I really hope you will reach out to your friend and not abandon them because of this. If their beliefs are similar to yours, then you can imagine what they are going through. It is not your place to place judgement, regardless of whether or not homosexuality is right or wrong. They need a friend. You are in a great position to show God's love by being that friend, without judgement.

First I want to start off by telling you I do believe in God and consider myself a Christian. Second, I am a gay man. Third, there is nothing un-natural about being gay or lesbian. In nature, there are several strange instances of animals and plants that pro create much differently than humans do, so to compare them to humans would be crazy. Fourth, I have a question for you, "When did you decide to be straight?" If it is a deliberate decision to be gay then the reverse must also be true. That gay people made the decision to be gay at some point does not make sense. Why would anyone make such a crazy decision? I mean given the American society today, who would want to be gay, to be discriminated against, to be called immoral, to be hated, to be persecuted, tormented and even killed by straight people. Doesn't make much sense to me that a person would want all that, does it to you?

If you believe in God, then why can't you accept that we are as God made us? And if you look at Nature, you will find examples of all species engaging in homosexual activity.

Btw, your friend didn't just become gay 5 years ago--he probably just discovered and admitted that aspect of his life then.

The question is, if you're such a friend and not intending to put anyone down, why would you argue with your friend over something you couldn't possibly have any "inside" information about? If he says he was born gay, how could you possibly "know" any different? That you don't understand something doesn't mean it's not true.

Lets see - how do I explain this....when I was born I did not go through a training class, I did not 'learn' to be gay. However at 5 years old I had my first crush on someone and it was another boy - I told my family I was going to marry him when I grew up....to me being gay is as natural as my eye color.

What did you mean by look at nature? A simple Internet search will show up numerous articles where homosexuality among the animal kingdom is quite common.

The information is all around you buddy but you have to be willing to read and study.

As for God - please don't tell us that you think you know exactly what God intended - and PLEASE don't tell me you believe the Bible 100%. That was supposedly a work inspired by God - but I could write a bunch of crap down and say "Oh God inspired me" would you start following what I wrote just because I said that?
Dude if you don't start developing your own mind and stop believing everything anyone says you are going to go no where in life.

First of all if there really was a God I'm sure he would love everyone - gay or not. Second of all to the people who say that gay people say they're "born gay" to cover up their gayness - how are we covering up our gayness by saying we're born gay?

If you take any human biology course in college you will know that everyone starts out as a girl during the development stages. The clitoris is just an underdeveloped male penis and depending on the chromosomes (XY) will fully develop into a male penis during pregnancy. I believe that homosexuality stems from development issues during pregnancy and gay men are probably born before they have time to fully develop. Lesbians probably overdevelop slightly during pregnancy. Think about it as fruit on a tree...just as fruit is connected to the tree by stems we are all connected to our parents by umbilical cords. Gay men are the fruits that were picked a little prematurely and are "unripe" so to speak and lesbians fell off the tree after becoming a little too "ripe".

This would explain a transgendered persons feelings of being trapped in the wrong body and also bisexuality if these individuals were born between the transformation stage from girl to boy.

When did you know you were straight? When did you know you were right handed? For gays, it's the same thing. It's a part of us that has always been there.

I can't tell you for 100% sure about OTHER people, but I can tell you 100% sure for this man that I was born gay.

Science has known for more than 10 years that sexual orientation is determined by genes.

Check out this article:

With all the hatred and legal discrimination against gays, do you think anyone would actually choose to be gay?

First, you shouldn't ask questions if you already have your answers and conclusions made up, it's just rude. Also please show documentation that proves that it "CAN'T be true."

I don't believe in God. Nature has many examples of animals in same-sex behaviour.

http://www.seedmagazine.com/news/2006/06/the_gay_animal_kingdom.php?page=all&p=y

Your friend was gay all along, he just came to terms with it.

I have never known any other life. My sexual orientation is as natural to me as my eye colour. It is nor good nor bad. It was not a decision unless I magically made it before I can remember, which is stupid. I mean seriously, why would anyone, a child especially, make this decision, for life? What part of that is at all logical?

Science tells me I was born like this, I have never known any other way to be. From my earliest memories I have been like this. I've never changed, always the same.

Oh and I don't believe in God but I do believe in con artists. Those that try to change gays to straight, charging thousands upon thousands of dollars, making money off of other's misery.

Why would someone make a decision in one direction, and be unable to unmake it? Makes no sense.

The idea of this choice is illogical.

For example, why would people in Iran choose to be gay, where it's punishable by death? Illogical.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahmoud_Asgari_and_Ayaz_Marhoni

The only choice is to be closed minded on the topic. Do yourself and your friend a favour, get educated on this.

Oh and following your God thing, who would choose hell over heaven? Totally illogical.

For the same reason you probably think that you were born heterosexual. I understand that this concept is hard for you to grasp since you're not gay but no one chooses to be gay. Ever. No one wakes up and goes "I'm going to be gay today". To us being gay is as natural as being straight is for you. And like everyone has pointed out homosexuality is very present in nature. And I do believe in god. But I also believe that god wouldn't condemn me for loving. No matter what the bible, koran, torah, etc might say.

I hope that for the sake of your friendship you can see that too.

I'm playing devil's advocate here brothers and sisters so don't get mad at me Please!!

Ok let's look at it from a creationists point of view, with the following assumption. .God created man perfect.

Man Sinned, making him less than perfect. The farther from perfection we get the more imperfect each generation gets. And so on. Gay is an outgrowth of imperfection. Just like bad teeth, dimples and balding.

Please --- get a life. We are who we are. We can not change our internal makeup any more than we can change the stripes on a zebra or the direction of the rotation of the planet.

But what we can control and make every effort to love the people around us. We are human beings that bleed just like you the same red blood when we are cut. We have the same feelings for those that suffer at the hands of others, maybe even more because we are attacked on a far more aggressive level and from far more sources. We raise our children, yes we have children, to be honorable members of society.

If you truly believe in God and Jesus as his Son then your hate is in violation of Jesus's command "Love thy neighbor as thy self"

Think about it the next time your minister or pastor speaks of hate against any person or group. Is he following Jesus's commandment. If he is not -- well then it is up to you to change who you listen to and follow.

i used to watch this lil 4 year old boy get his butt beat everyday from either his mother or his father for being so feminine. at 4 you don't know what gay is and if they could have beat it out of him i'm sure they would have.

and if it's not posible to be born that way then why is it so hard to train boys, that the dr.s burned their penis off trying to circumsize, to be girls dispite the hormone theropy and the growing up a completely different sex but still not backing down from the belief they are the sex that they actually were originally.

also why would we have men that have sex changes and still want to be with women they just don't feel right in there body?

and why do we have hemaphrodites?
